Amazon is making a push into the small hardware space. In an effort to sell parts such as screws, nuts and bolts, Amazon developed a new iPhone app allowing users to automatically detect what part they need. The app uses computer vision to identify the part, therefore saving you a trip to the local hardware store. With the new app (“Part Finder”) you can rely on your phone’s camera to identify the part for you. The software can identify hundreds of types of screws, nuts, bolts, washers and other fasteners. As soon as the part is identified, the app allows some customization such as head or driver type. You can then order the part directly through the app.
