Can computer vision technology protect passengers in a car? Guardian Optical Technologies from Tel Aviv just raised $3.1M to do just that. The company is building a system to track and infer information about the passengers in a car. The system provides safety features such as determining the right amount of force when deploying an airbag as function of each passenger size. The system is composed of a custom sensor placed inside the car and a set of computer vision and machine learning algorithms. The company believes their system renders other existing sensors redundant and therefore predicts it will actually reduce the overall car manufacturing cost.
